it's only a browser

Okay. I'm weighing in on Firefox.

I'm not a huge fan of this browser. To be honest, the moment I find something better I'm dumping it. It's not that the browser is crap. There are some wonderful features like Morning Coffee and the like that make my web-life a little bit easier. It's free, which is a big bonus, it's secure…but there's one aspect of the Fox I can't get past; the user-base.

A quick google brought me this and a slew of similar mindless garbage. My biggest pet peeve with Firefox users is this Mac-like attitude of superiority. "Oh, you use IE? Poor you."

It gets worse when you come up against a Foxfanboy who also has his own website, in my IE days, I actually stopped visiting sites which would proudly tell me "Get Firefox, 'cause it's better than your crappy Micro$oft browser." The statement might be true, but if I'm using Internet Explorer, chances are I have a reason. Mainly because most large corporate websites are still pretty IE heavy, and Firefox makes a wonderful mess of my banks website.

In short, fuck Firefox. It's a program. Get over it.

If you're looking for an alternative, try Opera. It's paid-for but i don't think it's much, there is an ad-supported free version, and every so often they give away a bunch of free keys anyway. That, or just pirate it - whatever your morals allow.
That said, you're totally right. In my opinion Firefox is the best browser, so that's what I personally use. Frankly, I couldn't give a shit what other people use and I shouldn't have to - that's what standards are for.

Thanks Chris. I've used Opera in the past and enjoyed it, but haven't really kept up to date on its progress for awhile. Perhaps it's time for a re-install.

hooray! i also fuck firefox. that 'spreadfirefox' link made me angry. "my site looks best in firefox because that's what i code for". what a fucking brilliant strategy. considering that firefox still has a less than 15% share of the browser market, you're only ostracising the other 85% of your visitors. *slow claps*

as a designer i absolutely *have* to code for IE and firefox, and just to be sure i check my sites in maxthon and opera too. i've considered buying a minimac just to test sites with it, but mostly i'm thinking that mac users can go fuck themselves.

I agree Lawrie, I recently read an article about how IE6 usage was down a few percentage points, and FireFox users pointed it HAD to be because people were migrating to Fox. But the stats actually showed it was people migrating to IE7 (which I feel in general to be a better browser, just needs easier ways to get add-ons).

With mac slowly getting a bigger marketshare, I can see why you'd consider the Mini. You'd probably be better to grab an older unit off eBay for cheapo and just load Safari up on it….which by the way is lightyears worse than FireFox users think IE is….

When it comes to securing tickets for shows where the site's server has crashed, IE seems to work more than Firefox. I prefer Firefox's small buttons though. IE seems too self-important.

Chris, Opera has gone completely free now, so you can get the full version with no ads easily. It's also miles better than both Firefox and IE!

I have Opera, FF and Safari installed on my work mac. The one thing I've started to grow very dependent on with regards to Firefox is Firebug. It's a fantastic tool and (unfortunately) I feel it wipes the floor with Opera's counterpart.

Ironically, Firebug is one of the reasons my PC /w Firefox crashes so often: I'm pretty certain that it also has memory leaks (as well as FF itself). The developers really need to address the memory footprint FF has, it is getting ridiculous. It's probably also why the Wii has Opera on it and most mobiles have a lightweight instance of Opera… can you imagine Firefox Mobile?

AND Opera passes ACID2. Someone develop OperaBug!

Firefox. Heh. I've been using it for a week and a half now, and while it does have its usefulness, I'm not all that impressed. I find it more slow than IE, non-firefoxified sites are buggy indeed, and it keeps giving me trouble with logins and passwords, and sometimes it eat my cookies.

Maybe I'll stick to it, maybe not. Fanboys are, as always, not helping.

…didn't this site used to have a login thing?
